ARRIBA LINEA - SPANISH FOR TOP LINE :

The owners of Arriba Linea are Lori Jones and Tom Vanhanen .

Tired of the hustle and bustle in the city, In 2003 we began our search for a country home and possibly a few acres.

We searched and searched for a suitable house, the minute we set eyes on our place, we knew it was home, although it did have much more land than originally planned! Our beautiful home sits on 67.8 acres in Uxbridge. Once purchased, our first discussion was what would we do with all this land. Being animal lovers we could not raise anything that would be slaughtered. My immediate thought was Alpacas.

At this point I knew very little about them, except that they were very cute! I began my research before we even moved into our new house and I was very excited to learn that my new pets had the potential to be very profitable. Since then I have spent alot of my time researching and visiting farms. Once in a while dragging along a family member who had asked the famous question "What's an Alpaca and what do you do with them?" One visit is about all it takes to fall in love. Now Tom's Mother, our Sister and Brother-in-Law are purchasing Alpacas as well. I'm calling it "The Contagious Investment"....... since I don't consider myself much of a sales person, I am quite happy to see they sell themselves!

In 2005 we bought our starter herd. They were agisted at Qolmesa until July 2006 while we benefited from Qolmesa's eight years of knowledge and experience.  Now they are finally home with us and the Arriba Linea Barn is close to completion.

Arriba Linea Alpaca Ranch:

To offer the best protection for our Alpacas, our Barn is enclosed with a 6 foot No-Climb fence.

THE STAFF:   Rally & Vincy, the Great Pyrenees Dogs keep a close watch for predators.  When Biscuit the Pig is not busy drinking from her juice box she is on clean-up duty....sure to remove any pellets the alpacas might drop on the floor!

We Are Currently Members Of:

OUR COMMITMENT TO ALL ANIMALS:

We keep our property as natural as possible so all creatures can benefit from it. Our Property is also located next to 40 acres of environmentally protected land. Its not unusual to look out our window and see deer or wild turkey roaming in our backyard.

We seem to have a natural attraction when it comes to animals, especially those in need of help. Not a summer goes by without us rushing off to a wildlife centre with an injured bird, turtle or raccoon. Not to mention the stray cats and dogs that show up on our doorstep. They all seem to know where to go!

THE TRUMPETER SWANS:

Absent from the province since the 1700's, the trumpeter swan restoration program began in 1982.  With the help of Harry Lumsden, we are fortunate enough to be able to care for a breeding pair of these birds.  Hatched June 21st, 2005, these babies (cygnets) will be brought to the Wye Marsh Centre, where they will remain until being released into the wild.  The breeding pair stay with us, hopefully to produce more cygnets and increase the population.

SWAN UPDATE:

Our 2005 Cygnets were taken to Wye Marsh Centre.  Once they are released we will be able to track them with their tag numbers.
